A few thoughts on January 20, 2009 . . .
Even Mother Nature was celebrating President Obama's inauguration, giving us clear skies instead of the more common snow or rain.
I've decided to do my best to remember to refer to President Obama as . . . well, President Obama. Bush was always just Bush because he was always such a tool. Fool. Moron. Idiot. Dickhead. War criminal. Take your pick. President Obama deserves and will get much more respect from me.
Why isn't "My Country 'tis of Thee" our national anthem?
You know John Roberts was hitting himself in the head last night. "Duh! One thing to do and I fuck it up!"
I loved that the Obamas brought their daughters up to the podium and put them between Michelle and John Roberts. I loved that Michelle was holding Lincoln's bible as her husband was sworn in. Isn't it usually the case that the Chief Justice holds it? How much more personal that it was the wife of the President. There were so many photos afterwards of Michelle still holding the bible and of the girls getting to hold it as well. Lucky, lucky girls.
Little disappointed in the speech. I thought the one given at the Lincoln Memorial was more stirring. Still good . . . "we have chosen hope over fear". . . but not as great as I'd hoped.
How beautiful was Michelle Obama last night?
My daughter took a photo of my grandson in front of the TV as President Obama was taking the oath of office. He will grow up in a completely different world than I did, than even my daughter did. Progress. It takes time, but it does happen.
It's a great day to be an American.
