stop the madness

Poor Jett Travolta.

How sad for John and Kelly to lose a child.

How tragic to have that loss drug through the mud of the media's obsession with 'the real story.'

I am ashamed to admit I've played my part in this travesty of real news. Just last night I read on Gawker.com (I won't do them any favors by linking to the article) a breathless, in-depth report accusing the Travoltas of Photoshopping the pictures released of Jett after his death.

I literally tasted bile. And I was ashamed of myself for contributing, because I was reading the trash, to the mudslinging.

In the end, the only story is that a family lost a son much too soon. Does it matter that the religion they practice is a little odd? Does it matter if the pictures were modified?

Will any of that bring him home again?

I'm ashamed of myself for wallowing in their grief by reading the words of those who spend their lives looking for dirt.

John, Kelly - I apologize.

Jett, rest in peace.
